I was immediately drawn in by them thumbnail because the colors were pretty much straight up monokai (one of my all time favourite color themes). Was that intentional choice or just a coicidence?
So though visually simplistic, it looks great with pleasant colors and fun squeezing movement animation. Sounds pretty good too though the shoot/kill/exp sound effects do get a bit annoyingly repetitive and muddled when there is loads of them happening all the time.
It starts off being so easy that you can just idle around. The shot cooldown reduction seemed like the only upgrade worth it really as projectile speed would do nothing as enemies aren't dodging or you don't have to aim at all. Maybe few points in damage could be useful but the cooldown seems to serve the same purpose too. I dunno if it increases exponentially or what but at some threshold it seemed to really dramatically bump up and turned into a literal machine gun. From that point onwards, I was again able to just idle in the center.
Managed to capture also in that video a huge lag spike that seems to happen the worse the longer you spend on the upgrade pick screen. Is it like still spawning bullets in the background and then fires them off all the second you do your pick or something?
This was the only time I lost any life since and managed to go for dozens of levels more. The difficulty ramping up seemed to stop and I guess it could go on forever.
The main culprit for turning this game to too easy is the infinite grab range for exp pellets. That's why it's a somewhat rare one time pickup in Vampire Survivors and Megabonk. And of course the lack of different upgrade options was hurting the replayability too.
Anyways, good job! 👍Thank you for playing! The color palette was not intentional. I just thought it looked wonderful hahaha. I tried to pitch shift the sounds every time it plays so it wouldn't get boring, but maybe because the range is too small, that causes it to be repetitive. I have come up with a few other upgrade ideas, but I have been so busy with school recently that I don't have enough time to actually put them in the game and try to balance the upgrades. As for the lag, I'm not quite sure myself what the problem is, because when the upgrade panel is active, the timescale is 0. It shouldn't spawn any bullets at all. I will try to look into my code. I thought the difficulty was okay and maybe even a bit hard for some players, that's why I make the EXP fly into the player.
Very fun and addicting adaptation of the Vampire Survivor format. I agree with the other commenters that some extra juice and impact would add a lot to the game's feel. I will say that I wish the options were a bit more balanced. I played a few times and reducing cooldown is far and away the best option (so good that if I went too long I was untouchable until the sheer number of projectiles crashed the game). And the speed of the projectiles never seemed very useful.
All that to say, it was still a good addicting gameplay loop and there's a lot of room to expand with different enemy types and options to upgrade your little circle.
Thank you for playing!! Yes, I feel like the cooldown is just better than other upgrades. Initially I was planning to make more upgrade options, but it was harder than I expected.
Very addictive game! I feel that there should be a way to see how much XP you have earned as a way to set a 'highscore' in order to challenge your friends!
Thank you for playing!! That’s some nice things to have, I will definitely add that.
Making circles as engaging as possible, nice work! This format has become an instant classic. Love that little stretch in the direction of travel, my fave touch here. I think the upgrades could roll in just a little faster, I kept getting overwhelmed.
Thank you for playing !! Glad you like the stretch and squash. I agree with the upgrade part, I just noticed that too. Will work on it asap.
Pretty neat! I agree that it could be juiced up a lot with some simple audio and feedback. Nice work
Thank you for playing!! I just added some audio in the game, feel free to check it.
Straightforward and simple concept , i like it! As per game mechanic ,everything works well , could be juiced up by adding audio(even simple background music ) and maybe subtle feedback . Great work and keep it up! 😉
Thank you for playing!! I'll add some sound feedback and possibly a background music
