love me some mind bending puzzle game! even with the familiar control the robot setting you managed to milk out some good conundrums! well done! Feel free to check out our puzzle game as well, we tried to make some real headscratchers too! Cheers!
This was an interesting puzzle game that I actually found exceptionally difficult to wrap my head around for a while. I was struggling to provide any tangible value to the spinning nodes. It's definitely a tricky line you have to walk when doing a jam game in terms of tutorialization, because you want the pace of your game to be quick and inviting, but there are certain things that do need explanation so your audience can feel fully in the loop (hah) with your mechanics. Player onboarding aside though, I felt very engaged by the puzzles here once I figured out how all the nodes interacted with each other, the sheer volume of puzzles were very impressive, and they ramped up in difficulty at a very natural pace. Great work!
Yeah. FTUE was shoehorned in at the last minute and could def be better. We're already working on it for the post-jam update. Here's my Trello card today ;)
This is a cool game. I think the art and color palette works well, as do the sound effects. The turtle style programming is executed pretty well, and I love how much juice the wall hit effect has. The jump forward command is a unique bit that I haven't seen before, and it really adds a lot to the puzzles. Speaking of puzzles, this is an impressive number of them for a jam game. I was able to beat 16 out of the 21 pretty quickly, but those remaining few seem like they'll take a lot more tinkering for me to solve.
The only suggestion I have is to (almost) never use the default Godot font/UI styles when doing low res pixel art. Switching to pixel art fonts, panel styles, sliders, buttons, etc. really helps with readability, saves screen space, and in my opinion adds to the immersion of the game. I know you mentioned a fix for the font in another comment, but I think doing pixel art style boxes for stuff is also worth it. I've found it to be pretty quick and it does a lot to improve the feel of the game.
Thanks for making a cool game!
Appreciate the feedback!
Yeah, I think overall Godot theming was something I want to address when we have more time/something we're not as used to setting up
We've been experimenting with it for a future update since it's a highly suggested change!
This was a really fun one! My most obvious suggestion would be to use a pixel font that fits the scale you want your game to be at. A lot of pixel fonts have only a specific pixel size (and it's multiples) they function at, and with how blurry and difficult to read the text was, it would definitely be of help. Other than that, some of the levels got REALLY long, and not being able to view the entirety of my pathing and edit the middle of it really detracted to the puzzle element, and became kind of about how well you can execute a 30 step program. I did have a good time though. Great job!
Thanks for the detailed feedback!
We've got a fix for the blurry font in a new build but ran out of time
A path preview might be a nice QoL feature to add, just have to see how it affects the difficulty/planning ahead feel we're going for
I'm not sure what you mean by not being able to edit in the middle?
If you mean remove some commands in the middle of your queue, you actually can delete individual commands (we should probably highlight that more in the tutorial)
If you mean being able to edit in real time while the character is looping, that would kind of break the game/cheese every puzzle (or at least change it from a puzzle game to a reflex game)
I knew you could delete commands, but I didn't see a way to add commands in the middle, which would mean if I needed to add something for like the 6th step in a 20 step program, I would have to delete 15 of my steps just to go back. Didn't mean real time that's just a different game entirely lmao
Ah, gotcha, might be nice to add some kind of cursor or similar
We tried to keep it pretty simple/compact since you can only go up to 8 steps
Wears it's inspiration in its sleeve - and that's a good thing!
Felt like it could belong in the UFO 50 catalogue if it was expanded.
Great job!
I've never heard of that, but that's a cool concept! Thanks!
Apparently it just got announced today lol
The puzzles were well thought out. You had to think about what the lil robot would do when their instructions loop again. I appreciated the level select since I did get stuck sometimes. The visuals and audio were quite nice. Really nice game!
Thanks!
We wanted to respect people's time, especially in a game jam, so we had to make sure the game was accessible
love the puzzles! took me a while for some, but I had a lot of fun!
Great game 🙌 The visuals and sounds are simple yet really clear and fit the vibe. The puzzles are good and the idea of the game is nice. Amazing submission 👌
very nice game! The design of the puzzles is really clever, I tried to be as efficient as possible.
I really like the idea and the puzzles, but it was so difficult to understand the rotation direction, and it took me embarrassingly long to figure out that you can jump. I love the colors and the art!!!
Yup. @KappajJo is doing some things around that jump as much. Also, level 4 we're going to punch out a little bit more to make sure the jump mechanic is highlighted
It took some figuring out what are the mechanics of different tiles, but overall this is an exemplary puzzle game. I like the artstyle and music as well!
Nice Puzzles! The robot doesn't complaint about this, but I try my best to save it from loading too many commands to get the job done. I also really love the music and art. They make me feels relaxed while thinking about solutions. Great work!
The robot appreciates your efforts :salute:
The music is great and the art is really cozy! I got stuck in some stages, it's not exactly a straight learning curve, but I really enjoyed.
Just had some anoying problems with the "Back to menu" button on the top right side of the screen, always clicked mistakenly taking it as an undo button, even on later stages.
Thanks!
Yeah, even towards the end of the jam, we were still experimenting with the level order lol
We're adding tooltips for buttons in the next update!
Cool game! I actually had the same idea and implemented it in a different style. It’s really nice to see other interpretations, fun and well executed!
Neat, I'll have to check yours out!
I like this one a lot, good job. Level design is very clever and gameplay feels natural; artwork is simple but cool, music is nice (maybe a little repetitive on the long run but it's totally ok) and I love them little details like highlighting the names of the levels you've already played or the shake when you hit a wall (watch out for the grey background when that happens but again, minor flaw).
Also, wp for the volume options in the menù, even if I noticed it clips when you change it, but I wouldn't know how to fix that.
Lastly, I'd put a simple CRT/Noisy shader on it, since it already has that old-style vibe.
I'm being very critical only because this game is one of the ones I've enjoyed the most, and I think it's really good — seriously, well done.
Appreciate the detailed feedback!
Definitely adding these to our list of updates, I can see all the thought you put into them!
Wow, thank you so much for the praise.
Will look into the CRT/Noise shader, maybe with a toggle. I played another game or two that had it in this jam, but I'm not sure if it's distracting long term from the actual gameplay. Still, it should look pretty cool.
Great puzzle game!
Great puzzle and loop theming!
Hey fellow looping robot!
This is a great puzzle game with a really nice aesthetic and really fitting music too! I appreciate the level select menu, I got stuck on a level and just went to the next one, haha. With games like this, it will get to a difficulty where I can't solve the puzzle for a long time, and it just makes me think about how great the level designs are and how hard it must have been to come up with them! Nice work!
Glad to hear it!
@quietcoro really pushed for including the level select for that reason, glad that option's helpful : )
The game was soo fun i played for half an hour, unfortunately couldn't complete it, maybe that was the hardest level and the last one, the music is great, good game feel, good Level design, I can imagine how many hours you put in making those levels, it was a delightful experience
Thank you so much! Let me know if you want solution I'll message it to you
The artwork is very pretty, I loved the colors and the puzzles are great! Very nice!
