Nope - I've completed at least one game jam before.

How does your game fit the theme?
Plot wise, it's a game where the end goal is to start a program on the OS. Gameplay wise, theme is represented in the battle system (antivirus starting bar).

I loved this game! You don't really know what kind of game you're getting into until you're there which is nice and well i did take a while myself but i really enjoyed it :)

Thank you!

This once is particularly interesting, the interface reminds me of Windows XP. Loved the little things running inside the game. Good job!

I always like these OS based games. Will make one some day.

Developer

Thanks!

Well polished and fun mechanics. I would adjust the timing, speed up the combat and unlock the advance dialog faster. While the shake and knockback are okay indicators of attack and defense, for the attacks, a sprite animation may be a better way to signpost what you are doing. Also, after the 1st gettrojan.com, none of the given urls worked.

All and all, a great game with great potential.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you! Yeah, the problem with making sprite animations is high amount of card entities we planed to do, it would just take a lot of time to make a special animation for each card. With urls, yeah, we already know about that bug, it happens randomly, but in our case it was always about 2-5 broken links of 12. Combat was faster, but when we were testing, it was just hard to follow what all entities do with high speed. The best option will probably be an in-game slider that adjusts the speed of the game. Thank you again, for such detailed feedback!

Wow this is crazy work for a game jam 😂
I didn't get to finish it but I will definitely comeback and play some more, the polish is insane, this is practically steam ready haha. My only complaint is that the info dump is a bit much in the beginning, there is a sense of overwhelming-ness but I know it's a nitpick, could have some adjustments on that! This is just amazing, great work team! Very high rating from me!

Developer

Thanks! Yeah, tutorial (and overall structure of the game) was made in quite a rush, so I agree that it might be overwhelming, and there's too much text too. If we someday make a full version, I'll make sure to make game mechanics open up gradually, so it wouldn't be as overwhelming

Submitted(+1)

REALLY well made! I can't believe you made this in 10 days, it's one of the most complete games I've seen in this jam, good job!

Developer

Thank you!

Oddly satisfying :)

Strange thing to ask, do the allies attack? I didn't see the enemies attack either

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, they do, and almost all enemies attack, except for the purple ones

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

incredible. didn't hate anything about the game. only slightly disliked some of the things i mentioned

Developer

Thank you! Your walkthrough was very interesting to watch :)

Submitted(+1)

Great submission - very very polished.

Loved all the small features around the harddisk, like moving files and how it influced the deck. I probably did not find every interaction and theres not much critique I can think of.... only really minor thing, I'd like to have my escape menu to quit the game. Even if it would be fluff-wise on the start menu -> shutdown.

Overall I had lots of fun.

Developer

Thank you!

Wow what a polished entry! There is so much content here I bet you guys didn't even sleep once during the jam!

I think there is a lot of potential here to make it into a full-fledged game if you continue to polish it up and work on the pacing a bit. I felt at times during the battles I knew what was going to happen and had to patiently wait for the game to go through to motions of the sequence. Perhaps this is a personal preference thing, but I felt there was a bit too much text. Kinda hard to avoid since it is an OS afterall, but maybe there is a way to work more with iconography instead of pure text? Small gripe to an otherwise top-tier entry!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Yeah, we've worked a lot, last day was a rush... About the text, I fully agree!

Submitted(+1)

Wow! Really in-depth mechanics, a lot to play here! The OS is super well done and has a ton of character. The antivirus and dialogue is great as well, with the general vibe, music and especially the spritework (god, it's so beautiful!!) making the whole thing so nice to play

I sort of wish that the battles could go a little bit faster, as well as having more ways to refill the Antivirus bar faster, as I never really had it above 30-40% much and instead opted for things like attack cards for immediate damage, though that could just be my playstyle. Very engaging, for 10 days this is phenomenal

Developer (3 edits) (+1)

Thank you! There are some different tactics that make game faster :) For example, you can make a 3 sorcerers deck with a lot of UNO cards, and destroy enemies easily! Also a lot of viruses (passive items) give you antivirus bar, you can build your tactic off that too!

Submitted

Ahhhh, okay! Yeah, I think I was a bit too tired to experiment much, so that's on me haha! But it was still very fun and engaging!

This doesn't feel like a game that was made in 10 days. I love how the "deckbuilding" aspect of the game plays out (rock carried me through the runs).  Enemy roster is suprisingly robust, especially since they arrive in many variation and positioning on the field. Alternative win-condition was a very good inclusion, as were enemies attacking various resources and allies. Some of the virus links do not work and one out of dozens of fights was against three empty health bars (which weirdly was ontheme for the game and quite amusing change of pace, judging by description it might be by design, or with codes skill issue when it comes to typing on my part. Overall, this stuff is amazing, phenomenal job.

Developer

Thank you very much! Bugged enemy encounter and some links not working are actually bugs :) But I agree that it fits the game atmosphere well

This is so good???? I'm genuinely surprised this was made in 10 days with how much polish and content there is. The cards and items being files that you find/obtain from your computer is such a neat and immersive idea. The gameplay itself is simple but enjoyable, and the art is PEAK. The tutorial did drag a bit but overall, this is definitely my favorite entry so far. Like I'm actually pissed this doesn't have more ratings. Great job!

Absolute peak! Great visuals and presentation, and fun all around! The beginning has a bit too much text, but I don't think there was any other way of teaching the player how to play. But otherwise, great game!

Developer

Thank you for playing!

The presentation in this game is peak. The combat gets some time to get used to but it gets really fun when you do! My only complaint is the tutorial was dragged wayy too long for me. But loving the other side activities to do in the files/browser to get extra cards. Surprisingly a lot of content for a game made in only ten days. Job well done guys!

This is actually really fun! It both looks and feels really good and the gameplay is quite enjoyable as well. Though, I will say that the text wasn't the easiest to read a lot of times.

WOW, this game is CRAZY, the graphics, the music, the combat, everything feels so polished and smooth, it's hard to believe it was made in 10 days, congratulations to the team!

Developer

Thank you! If you liked the game, and didn't read captchaguide.com, try to! Some of the mechanics are described in it, that make the game even more interesting!

Developer

Thanks!

that was a crazy good submission!! i loved the artstyle, the music the humor and basically everything of it! I can really see how much effort you put in here, as well as in other aspects like when you click on the notes or youtube/discord :) all in all a great submission and again awesome music and artstyle!!!

Fun: fun, fighting the viruses through cards was a good idea, the tutorial was slow though, and it git repetitive, wish there was a saving system

presentation, really like the design of the virosus, the game gives old games vibes

creativity: anti-virus fighting the viruses, great idea

all, amazing game, good job

Thank you for playing!

I would love for you to try my game and rate it, I'm sure you're gonna like it 😁

Developer

Thank you (;

I played it! Even though our games are both on desktop, i don‘t think they are the same at all! Yours focuses more on a juicy combat system fighting off viruses. I really liked the combat, pulling off the ultimate attack always is very satisfying and the desktop windows where very well executed. The art looks great too

my only feedback is that sometimes i cant hover over the little red sword over one of my troops head because the popup window keeps popping in and out. One time i also fought enemies with 0 health and no sprites, btu im not sure if that was a bug or not

great entry!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for playing! Just interested, did you notice the deckbuilding aspect of the game? It might be hard to notice, because information about it is in the long browser captcha guide

Submitted

i thought the long browser captcha guide was just a summary of the tutorial so i didn‘t check it out.. I probs will after checking out a couple of more entries!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Yeah, in summary, you can turn files on the computer to cards, and have full control of the deck. Also you can download viruses from the links, that Galk gives you, and use them as passive items in the battle

Submitted(+1)

thats how you get the viruses that makes sense

Developer(+1)

Yeah, I've spent a lot of time on the OS (windows, file system), so battle might not be as polished, and there might be some bugs

Developer

Thanks!
