Time inversion is really dope. The concept is very interesting and the way you pulled it off is insane. I have no idea how you did it. But the core mechanic of the other character going back in time when you switch is just so mesmerizing to think about, and there is huge potential when it comes to level design and gameplay with this key mechanic alone. As promised, here are my thoughts on the game:
- The core mechanic is something so unique. I would recommend explaining it in simpler terms, as it felt like I had no idea what was happening. The game really shines on the mechanic, and it should be properly conveyed to the player, on what exactly that you're doing. For a first game, this is insane!
- The visuals were on point and consistent. Again, it took me a while to understand the time inversion, and how sprites go back in time.
- The sound effects were too good, but minimal. I would consider adding more sound effects, especially when characters switch as it is an integral part of the gameplay.
- The main menu could be reworked as well. Instead of a How to Play card, it would be much more effective to teach the player in the middle of gameplay, when the collect question mark points.
- The music was really good too!
- I would further consider a stronger target for levels. Right now I have no idea what the goal of the game is. For example, in Mario the goal is to reach the end, and get to the flag. I don't really understand what to do besides collecting coins.
Look, for the game itself, it is extremely unique, and I have seen nothing like it before. Which means this has great potential to be a memorable experience! For a first game, you've pulled off a banger! You should be proud of what you've made.
I would love for you to continue working on this game, even after the jam ends. The game deserves more time and effort, and has all the groundwork to be an amazing game! All the best!
By the way, it would mean a lot if you could play my game and give some feedback! It would really help a lot! Thanks!
