Wait, let me see if I got this right.

If I work too fast on my game and end up releasing a new update in less than 30 days, one that actually adds new content, more story, more gameplay, that would be considered “content spam”?

So, like… I actually need to release my updates more slowly just so my visibility doesn’t get cut, is that it?

I am also interested in the answer to this question, as I take the development of my project quite seriously and try to delight users with new content as often as possible. However, in the entire time my page has existed, Itch has never featured my game in the new and popular section, as my major updates simply do not work; they get even fewer views than regular devlogs.

I’m experiencing the same issue you did and was wondering if you found any solution. What’s your current status, did your game appear in “Most Recent” after the major update?

You can select for your devlog these two things

General Update or Announcement

Share bug fixes, updates, or announcements related to the project.

Major Update or Launch

Highlight significant changes or a newly available project.

Working regularly on a game and pushing out updates are just that. Regular updates. Not significant or major changes. The spamming the content to the top phrase means constantly claiming, that every update is a major update. At least I understand it that way.

First of all, thank you for the clarification.

I used the titles exactly according to their intended purpose. For previous update announcements, I chose General Update, just as it’s described.

This time, however, we’ve added a mechanical and story-related update to the game. This update changes the way players experience the game, offering them a different experience from the previous version, which is why I used Major Update. From what I understand, it’s either waiting for manual approval or just taking a bit longer for some reason.

For obvious reasons they do not let every major update be bump on the recent list. It is said to be manual staff approval, plus some prefiltering like that 30 day cooldown probably.

Which means anything that affects how much staff can do will affect the number of approved major update devlogs. Of course they could also just not have agreed.

I also speculate that having a lot of traffic and followers increases chances.
