Ah, ok. That may explain it, I recall that there was a warning in Unity that input types might not work and I imagine that Wine might not be handling it well. 

I'll look into a Linux native port so that you don't have to use stuff like Wine to play. Native will always perform best, and since I won't need to develop any new input methods or screen inputs or whatnot, it should be a relatively easy go of it. 

I'll let you know what I find out!

Best workaround for the time being is to add the exe to Steam and run it through Proton, works flawlessly

Yes that worked  fine, I chose add new non-steam game searched the exe and added it to library, then right klick on the exe in the library and select properties than compatibility and finaly search for proton experimental.
