Got to say, I really love the concept of this one. The setup reminds me of the typical JRPG/Fire Emblem trappings (right down to the "female childhood best friend spellcaster" character) but with everything concentrated into the aftermath of the "final battle" rather than the journey leading up to it.
However, I do have to agree with some of the criticisms I've seen that Staghart's relationship with the protagonist, and eventual redemption, comes a bit too quick & easy to feel completely natural; especially with all the implications early on that Kojika might slowly be developing into a leader just as cold & brutal as Staghart himself as the reality of taking on a leadership role during post-war turmoil sets in, which never really gets addressed or developed later on. I also think that if we'd gotten to have a few more scenes with Dido the scene with her at the very end would've felt a lot more impactful as well - I honestly thought she was going to somehow turn out to be the other villain doing all the assassinations for a good while, and it's a shame that she never really gets a chance to shine because that scene actually made me interested in learning more about her and how she'd otherwise interact with Kojika.
I'll admit it's probably my own bias talking when I say this, but I'd say where this VN really shines is the scenes where we get to explore Staghart's psychology and what made him the type of person he was. I know "every villain is the hero of their own story" is considered a dragged-out cliché at this point, but I think the framing of the story as taking place after the climax of a story the audience only gets to hear second-hand makes an interesting setup for a redemption arc.
I imagine the game jam's time limit must have limited the scope of what could be covered by the story, but I still enjoyed reading what we got. Probably my first experience with a real "enemies-to-lovers" story, and I liked the angle that the relationship took.
(Also, I never got a look at the default sprites provided by the game jam so I'm not sure if the armour variants were something provided with the assets or if they were added on by yourself, but if they were then great work! The outfit designs really added to the experience)
