I'm a fan of kaizo games and this hit almost the right spot for it. The music and aesthetic of it works really well. My main feedback is for a kaizo game with precision platforming, the controls are a little too loose and the input feels imprecise. I think one reason for that is you have momentum, so sometimes landing on a thin platform you'll slide off.
For other game references, I Wanna Be The Guy has very tight controls where you stop on a dime, so the deaths don't feel unfair. However, your game style seems to match more closely with Super Meat Boy, though the level design in that game is in such a way that you could stop your moment safely by jumping into a wall (most of the time) and moving in the opposite direction stops you pretty quickly. It's possible the level design is what's making it feel bad for this game.
I enjoyed the first half until you get to the first rest area, then after that there's a massive difficulty spike due to what I mentioned above. I still have no idea how to get past the second level after the rest area. I would definitely play more of this though with some improvements as it's pretty solid.
