Are you playing the android version? In the PC version you can change the textbox opacity in preferences.

No. I don't have a gallery, I have version 1.4a. I used to have version 1.3d, and it had a gallery, but all the photos were unrelated to the story.
I think the photo gallery just has posters of daddies that aren't related to the story.
What special scene?
