I can't know why others would give low ratings to art and music, but what i would think:

1. the pixel art scaling is different on the characters and weapons vs ui and backgrounds- not a huge deal to me but others might care more.

2. more importantly the background sometimes lacks contrast with the characters on screen making them hard to pick out

3. the music is balanced a little loud but i liked it. i think it's good. maybe some people would rate it lower though. one problem may be, despite the song being good, maybe it doesn't fit the atmosphere you were trying to create.

I think the bigger issue is the lack of satisfying sound effects/shader effects when you hit an enemy or get hit. Having enemies flash, get stunned or shake, ect. would go a long way for visuals. For sound effects, make more of them and make sure they feel impactful. That's really hard to do though, I'm still not good at it but I try my best. I like calling this sort of thing "the juice".

basically, add more juice and you'll get better user feedback.

Pretty fun. The mini-games were programed well and were responsive once I got them working. The art style is nice too. My only problem is that it's sometimes hard to figure out what the controls are, even when the instructions work (EX "Turn the crank" doesn't tell you how to turn it), leading to unsatisfying losses. This could have probably been solved if more people on the team play tested.

It would also be cool if the mini-game order was randomized.

I'm not really sure how this follows the theme of the game jam, though.

I really enjoyed your game as well, ty!

sorry about that, we ran out of time and accidentally disabled the tutorial. it measures your pierce %, which is what % of your damage goes toward the next enemy

congratulations!

thank you! I'm particularly proud of the music so I'm happy you enjoyed it. It's really hard to make good relaxing background music, since you need to cut it back a lot. different skill than other types of composition for sure.

> Such as the button flashing when your flipped over
100% would have fixed the issue. i could tell your team knows what they are doing when it comes to game design! i get time is a limiting factor, we ran into that too

pretty fun!! your car physics are GREAT, even without everything else it's really fun to just drive around. Even accidentally flipping myself over or crashing was fun xD... seems like i'm not a great driver.

I love the way you made changing the radio work. Having to press tab and take your eyes off the road really helps with the hectic feeling. Especially when stuff gets thrown at you later into the game, it adds a lot of challenge in a fun way. Normally I'd say I prefer for the radio channels to use keyboard controls, but actually, making the control scheme harder just made it more interesting to play.

The only criticism I have it's a bit confusing in the beginning of the game what the goal is, but I got the hang of it pretty quick. I also didn't realize I could flip back over on my first run.

I got a C when I finished :(. Actually, getting the S jumps is harder than I thought.

Also, unrelated but your page design gave me an idea for my own game's page so ty for the inspiration!

in the future, a better way to do it would be to introduce mechanics incrementally. for example, in the beginning the player only needs to learn how to place a block so you just start with that, then explain how they are supposed to connect up to each other, ect.. it's less overwhelming this way.

Art style is really nice. I don't feel I can give you a fair rating, but if you do ever fix it I'd love to see what it could be like. Feel free to DM on discord @alicetouhou

the sheep is very cute

pretty cool! i think it was just hit a bit by the control scheme, i would love to see that get fixed and see more levels.

maybe even my favorite:) so far, it definitely is, but I feel a bit apprehensive saying it's the best one when I haven't played all the games. you deserve to place for sure though

I don't remember. I'll play again when I get home. The fox is cute as hell so I don't mind

definite top 3 for me.

ty! gameplay is the most important category, after all, so it's what we focused on 😀

I agree, it was fun but the slow pacing was the only thing keeping it back. Faster controls, less enemy health, ect. would make this game extremely satisfying to play

congrats! in hindsight I tuned the difficulty a bit high so your win is hard earned 😀. Electric room is also a good idea. This project is considered done by me but there are so many things that could be added or ways it could be improved. I wouldn't say we ran out of time and weren't able to add them, it's more that we paced over selves and kept the game small.

ps. about the detailed stats, we preferred to keep it simple to make it accessible for the game jam. too much text is very very overwhelming. but for a full release, this could be an issue, of course

oh, i wonder if i faced the same bug as that other person then. could just be i wasn't paying attention and i thought this was wave 2 so i'd take this bug report with a grain of salt

got to wave 10! i really like the mechanic of enemies washing up onto higher parts of the beach in harder waves. the building selection looks overwhelming at first, even though you can only afford one tower it still feels like you're being pressured to save for something that might be better. i can't say if saving is optimal or not, just that having the choice so early feels overwhelming

probably gonna come back tomorrow and try to get a better score

i didn't even realize how many levels i played

game design is great. best i've seen this jam. does it go past wave 2?

pretty fun! i think it could just use having the collectables be closer to together would be great. it was also a little easy (but i've played way too much hill climb)

anyway, the art is stunning, you did a really good job

pretty fun when i figured out how to play! i remember i commented on the descriptions, and actually, i found everything perfectly understandable this time around. good job!

the tutorial is definitely a bit long, so it was hard to remember everything before i started, but besides for that i liked your mechanic a lot. color choices were also great

you're the goat

most fun game i've played so far! i just think the difficulty could be a little higher, but of course everyone has different experience in this sort of game.

ah.. ok in that case i think the issue is i didn't find any yellow boxes before i died

hey, i think this is a really cool concept but i couldn't get the controls to work online and the download doesn't seem to work. is it possible you can change the build still? if you contact an admin they might let you. just the dodging was pretty fun so i'm curious what it would be like if it properly worked!

cool theming! i had fun playing a few times to get through all the waves.

i would really recommend adding the controls in game, or at least some indication somewhere you can double jump. i thought wave 4 was impossible for a minute.

also, please don't use mouse controls when you don't need to, it's the bane of laptop users.

Fun game! This is going to sound random, but it reminded me of the parachute portions from the wii version of a boy and his blob. It was quite a challenge, but fun. I think the only problem is it was sometimes unclear where you had to go.

thank you :)

thanks, i had a lot of fun working on the music and sound :)
