Hey everyone! I'm Saizon, the developer of High Fantasy Idle

In High Fantasy Idle, you play as multiple classes at once, swapping between them and progressing through distinct idle-game mechanics for each.

We are looking for an artist to join the team and revamp the visuals with original art.

The game has seen some strong interest here on itch (~120k plays) and will be coming to Steam Early Access later this year. We are looking for an artist to re-skin the game, first tackling the demo content, then building towards the EA release and beyond.

The work:

  • Many menus, skill trees, and other bits of UI. If you can give each "class" a distinct flair, even better!
  • Icons for the many upgrades available
  • Portraits for several characters included in the narrative
  • A world map (currently visible in the background when playing)
  • Achievement icons. Many of these can be directly adapted / reworked versions of in-game assets

Important details:

  • Pay will be based on a revenue-share basis, giving you a direct stake in the eventual release
  • Our preference is a 16-bit pixel art style. But we are open to something more stylized
  • The game is heavy in menus and UI, so we will expect to see examples of your skills in this area
  • Milestones: We'd start with re-skinning the existing build for our initial Steam Demo. New assets will be needed before and during Early Access, which is expected to last roughly 1 year. So this will be an ongoing project (although it is definitely frontloaded)

We are accepting applications through this Google Form

More about the gameplay:

The HFI demo is quite large already, taking several weeks to complete. The plan is to continue adding content well beyond what was in scope of the demo. More classes, more narrative, more juicy systems, all that good stuff you'd expect.

Right now there are 3 classes, with more to come:

  • Farmhand - a clicker-type class which unlocks automation very quickly into starting. The class is all about numbers going up!
  • Squire - an auto battler combat class with dungeons, different enemy types, and item drops. This class is currently driving a lot of the game's narrative.
  • Researcher - a *cough* research based class that creates different research pages based on different subjects and then publishes books on those subjects. These books become buyable items on the other classes and provide massive buffs!
  • ??? - The 4th class is currently in development and still has a while to go but the core active gameplay loop is almost complete. I plan to have this new class announced with a fun discord event involving an escape room activity!

Next steps for HFI is really broken into two streams, the art revamp and the new class. Thankfully I can work on the new class in parallel with the art revamp once we have chosen someone to join us! We're hoping to launch the Steam demo with the new art to attract an even larger audience.

If anyone has any questions about the HFI, its dev process, or anything else, please feel free to reply.

Thanks all, we're really excited to continue development on HFI and bring it to the next level with some awesome art!

Hey all, just another reminder that fake accounts with suspicious links are going around on itch. Please never click these links - any updates to HFI will always be posted directly to this page with associated patch notes. (Never in the comments section)

Stay safe out there!

Multitasking does work for offline but it simulates two random researches going at the same time, not the researches currently running.

Compounding knowledge will actually automatically increase while offline (for random research) so no need to set up the stacks before turning the game off.

You can have two researches going at the same time but you have to unlock it. (And that is why turning a research on doesn't turn off your active one) The perk is called multitasking. :)

There's some performance improvements coming in a future patch (I'm hoping to get this patch out in the next week or so) that should help with things like this.

I generally recommend for people to have hardware acceleration on when running HFI in the browser, but I have also seen other reports of high CPU usage like this so I will continue to investigate.

Congrats!

I'll try to give some blind tips here that might help :) (I think that stage of the game is balanced okay)

  • Dungeon 4 enemies skyrocket in XP gain, so getting further in is really beneficial for Squire. Might will eventually overtake Wisdom in how quickly you gain it.
  • If you're missing anything that will power up XP gain for the Researcher itself, I would focus on that if Squire doesn't seem to be leveling up fast enough. Faster XP on Researcher means faster Wisdom gains which means faster XP for everyone :D
  • If you're missing any achievements, those can provide some nice passive bonuses too. If you're missing secret achievements especially, check the discord as all the answers are there.

Yeah it depends on where you are in the game; it'll speed up nearer the endgame with Researcher slowing down a bit. If you want to give me an idea of where you're at though that will help. :)

I am honored by this comment thank you!

Haha that's right! It takes some effort.

Thanks so much, I'm so glad you're enjoying it!

No, although Night Mode is unlocked with Lore research so that needs to happen first.

Congrats and thank you!

Right now my priority is on the Steam beta, but I will consider a release on Itch in the future too! If I do release on Itch though, it will likely be a download only.

I have no intention of ever taking the demo down though (and I will keep it browser playable too). The save file from the demo can be backed up and transferred to any future versions of the game as well.

You need to buy a certain shop item on the Farmhand. Let me know if you want more of a hint. :)

Very close!

That is correct, so research subject speed is key in terms of gaining XP quickly. Sounds like you are close to your 100% completion gold star!

Turn off autoblock and you can still get corruption stacks. :)

Max out your perk tree for a particular class and it will appear. :)

You can!

Thank you!

Hi everyone!

I'm posting here today to celebrate the completion of the High Fantasy Idle demo! 🎉🎉🎉

Between releasing my original demo, the huge update that came out a few weeks ago, and countless community feedback items implemented, I can safely say that the demo is complete. Here is what you will find in High Fantasy Idle:

  • Class-Based Gameplay - Play a total of three different fantasy based classes in HFI: The Farmhand, Squire, and Researcher. Each class has their own unique gameplay!
    • Farmhand: Clicker-style gameplay with automation, an autoclicker you unlock minutes into the game, and big numbers! Number go up!
    • Squire: Autobattler gameplay with dungeons, rare item drops to collect, and challenging bosses. Fight goblins, the undead, and corrupted pirates!
    • Researcher: Idle research gameplay with the ability to publish books that other classes can buy for huge buffs! Watch the silly book names and text unlock as you write more chapters!
  • Achievements - Unlock a total of 90 achievements, including secret ones! (Hint hint, check the credits)
  • A Developing Narrative - Find out who the Mysterious Merchant is, what your special powers are, and your destiny!
  • Useful Evergreen Features - Eventually unlock features such as perk loadouts, and the ability to have all three classes running at once!

Here's a screenshot from the Squire class training against a (gasp!) Rotating Training Log in the first dungeon:

I know I said it's a demo, but it has weeks of idle content to explore and complete! Can you get the shiny gold star for getting 100% completion? I hope you all enjoy.

Play High Fantasy Idle here! (Browser or Windows download):

Yes I think this could be reworded to be clearer, thanks for the feedback. :)

Hey everyone, just letting you all know that there's a lot of scam accounts posting fake "game is updated" posts in the comments of itch games. Please don't click those links!

I for one will not post about updates in the comments section. There will always be a supported devlog/patch notes post that is separate.

Stay safe and keep gaming!

Just updating to say that the perk UI has arrows now! Thanks for the suggestion.

I've got this in my notes - thanks!

Wow thank you! I'm honored :)

The HFI discord is basically the wiki! We have channels for each class, pinned comments for secrets, and people are talking strategy all the time and help others with how to move forward.

That being said a wiki isn't a terrible idea...

Permanent perks (like autofarm) do not count for these kind of achievements. :)

Thanks I'll take a look!

I will be implementing a UI zoom option for people will high res monitors, just so everyone knows!

I saw a little bit of feedback that some people may miss the UI scaling bigger - if you are one of those people please let me know - it's something I could reintroduce. I'm always open to constructive feedback - thanks!

Awesome! Glad you had fun.

Glad you enjoyed it! Yes I will bring that criteria for that achievement down in the next update.

I mighttttt nerf that achievement. 100k might be a little extreme considering how much things automate over time. I'm glad you enjoyed the demo! Version 2 is coming soooooon.

You need item drops from the Goblin Scavenger (playing as Squire).

Thank you that's a huge compliment.

Thank you! I really appreciate it. I am working hard on new content!

I'll try to answer each point you raised:

Thanks so much for the kind words, I'm so glad you enjoyed it. The save data WILL carry over to the Steam release by the way (wishlisting is available!), so make sure you do a backup! :)

HFI is made in Godot using GDScript - so there is a possibility for the game to be exported to more platforms. Right now though, my time is limited so I can't really afford to spend that extra time debugging more platforms. It does run great on the Steam Deck though via Proton. (Steam Deck is officially supported by the way) Never say never though!

I'm assuming you're referring to the Auto checkboxes on the Squire for skills - it would be helpful to save if they are checked or unchecked, thanks.

Regarding it being hard to tell when the demo is over, totally agree. This is a symptom of the demo not being fully complete. When Demo V2 comes out I'll make sure to make it very clear when you have cleared all the content.

Thanks again!

Hello! I'm not currently planning to support MacOS, as I don't have the capability or time to test for it at this time.

I am planning to add more content to the demo! There will be a significant content update to the demo before it is considered complete - then I will be moving into content for the beta on Steam.

Hmm, nothing lately should have wiped save files, but just in case I'll reiterate how this could happen in a normal circumstance:

  • Clearing your browser cache will wipe your save file, as that is where the save file is stored. Make sure to backup your save!
  • While loading a save file is not available in the browser version, it is available both in the Windows downloadable version and the Steam version.
