Ngl i have many theories why the inconsistencies happen to show up, but one in-universe reason is that this is all a play. These horny ass witches and elfs decided to role-play pretending that men don't exist by kicking every single guy out or person that is in the way of disrupting their fantasies, thus they have the town for themselves and get to BOINK arthur

It was a sacred ground where witches alike will stand on the very tip and perform their sadistic rituals (especially at night). No one knows what they were exactly performing but on one particular day, the ritual went wrong for a group of young witches and they all spontaneously combusted. except for one that managed to survive, but then the next day she had diarrhea... and died. The hill went red... from that point and on any other witch was prohibited to climb the hill... forever abandoned in time as it was considered "cursed grounds".
Sorry ehem... you can kinda just make a save before helping Elizabeth or hanging out with her. that way if you f*ck up, you can kinda go back in time and re-do the thing. kinda defeats the purpose of you not unlocking scenes but hey... if hatchet wanted to place a barrier for that, well... he did it like this
