Which path did you choose?

Fresh Build

How does your game bring our theme, OUT OF TIME, to life?
It is about escaping the inevitability of falling into an expanding supermassive black hole, which swallows you when you run OUT OF TIME.

What did you do to ensure accessibility of the game?
Colour blind friendly, high contrast, playable with keyboard, mouse as well as touchscreen for mobile devices. Basically anyone can play the game as long as they are not diagnosed with epilepsy/photosensitive seizures. Properly visible warnings have also been included as and where appropriate.

Did you include the Indieformer or Patch Notes logo somewhere in your game?

Yes

If AI was used in your game, let us know how you used it.
We used AI for asking solutions to problems and helping us with debugging. It actually helped in probably... 10% of cases lol.

My eyes are in shock. And I also realized that it's best to avoid what I want to catch on the contrary) Cool idea and implementation. The interface is very neat, and the music complements it well

Developer

First of all sorry for your eyes :( :D

Thank you for your kind words and for checking out our game!

Needed to take some breaks while playing it but awesome idea and well executed, great job :)

Developer

Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it. 💖

Oh man this game looks super cool. Took a few breaks to try and play more and experience more of the trippy shaders with the phasing rocks. Visually it's quite amazing, and can tell y'all put a ton of time into making those effects. I liked the 3Desque feel as your moving through that space and rotating. Great job and making something mobile friendly as well. The music is awesome! Really love when the beat drops.

Practically could only play for about a minute before it made me dizzy/motionsick. Largest score was 1800.  So just let it run so I could hear more of the SFX and music at a time.

Very cool submission sorry I couldn't play more!

Thank you so much for playing our game and we’re really glad you liked it that much! It is quite difficult for me to play the game as well so please don’t feel bad for not being able to play it more. If anything, as a doctor, I would always recommend and request folks to immediately stop playing it as soon as they notice any kind of symptoms. (I also realized that this could potentially be used as a non-standardized screening/stress testing tool to help people identify any underlying conditions of photosensitive epilepsy, motion sickness or other vestibulo-ocular pathway disorders, that were previously undiagnosed in them, though I would say that such methods of testing must always be done in a strictly controlled environment with emergency medical support and personnel present and supervising it, and them being ready to handle any seizure events or other incidents.) That being said, I really appreciate your feedback, it means a lot to us! Kash will be really happy to hear your thoughts on the music as well. Will you see later on the discord!

This is visually stunning! You've definitely put a lot of time into perfecting the looks of the game. Me personally do not have photosensitivity, and I could imagine how those people will suffer with the game. It's good that you've put in so much warning beforehand. Though I would say it causes minor dizziness due to my susceptibility to motion sickness, but it wasn't a big deal for me. Just something to note. The music is super good, and I think Beyond Gravity is a really fitting song for the game. Gameplaywise it was a bit simple and would benefit from some difficulty increase, otherwise it would be quite a nice game! My highscore is 11625 light-seconds after a couple of tries.

Things I like:

  • Really great graphics, the UI also looks super nice. Nice stylised title too
  • Good sound that doesn't feel boring after prolonged listening
  • Impressive visual effects
  • It's rare to see mobile support in a jam game. Huge kudos

Suggestions:

  • Collectables are hard to distinguish from each other, especially when they are just a visual distortion. Perhaps some other elements other than distortions?
  • Movement felt not enough to react to the collectable. Sometimes it seems to be down to luck whether you are able to collect the "good" items. I think the quickest way to solve this would be to place the player arrow a bit lower, thus allowing more visual space to start reacting
  • Some difficulty increases as you play would be ideal

Anyway, I think you've all done a good job in making this game! Well done!

Woah, thank you for such a detailed breakdown! First of all, we are glad you like our game and it's graphics, cause we really did put a lot of effort into it :D
All of your suggestions are totally valid and we will handle those issues within the next patch. Once again, thank you so much for taking the time to write a detailed review, we appreciate it!

Thank you so much for playing our game Kelvin! And for your detailed analysis and feedback. Appreciate it a lot! The previous high score was 10178 by one of Kash’s friends, so you have surpassed that and are currently holding the highest reported score, congrats! We’ll see if we can incorporate a high score / leaderboards system within the game so people can compete with each other ha ha.

Your suggestions are very helpful and we will try out best to work on them and improve our game for the next iteration. The difficulty increase currently is only via increased obstacle spawning and faster movement, but we’ll explore ways to make it a more challenging experience as the game progresses.

Thank you again for you well wishes and kind words! Will see you later on the discord! 💖

Nice work, got a little confused which object is which, I think they should stand out a bit.

Very trippy! My best score was 4307 light seconds. Reminds me a lot of Super Hexagon.

I was finding it hard to tell the speed boosts and hazards apart from the background but that became less of a problem after a few attempts. Very nice music too, really sets the mood!

It’s impressive how you created a sense of space through the changes in the background.

Thank you!
