The game is very beautiful. The music is very scary when the anglerfish is approaching. Each location has an atmosphere of constant danger. But sometimes it's frustrating when you have to start the level over because you didn't have enough oxygen.
Amazing game! I enjoyed every bit of it. Perfect balance with oxygen running out. Getting into the water is always stressful and scary!
Oh wow, really great game and love all the ways the gameplay elements and sounds add tension, it was really quite scary and felt satisfying to complete! Really impressive, liked the story flavour text as well.
Oh the intense chase music really got to me, I was mashing the keys to get out of the water lmao.
Very nicely done, from the simple but kinda effective level design even to the design choice of having the angler fishes lamp be similar to the some door lamps, this game feels to be full of nice little details like that. Great work here.
Thank you for the game!
I usually don't play first-person horror games because they scare me too much, but I found it refreshing that this game does not rely on cheap horror and does a great job of building a sense of horror through staging, level design, and narrative. Also, it was kinda reassuring to know that the monsters only dwell underwater, and the surface is completely safe, so I can control the level of risk at every given moment. The levels are very well made. I liked the puzzles and how easily readable they are; so often before going underwater, I had the opportunity to get the layout of the level, understand where my goal is, and the patterns of the monsters' movement. Also, of course, visual and sound design are top-notch; they really deliver the oppressive, suspenseful atmosphere.
Overall, great job!
Really great aesthetics! The arts and sound in this game are great! Really enjoy this one.
Great sound, aesthetics and environment design! This gave me so many good horror vibes. The diving/surfacing mechanic took a little getting used to. I'd be curious to learn more about why y'all went with that mechanic rather than handling those transitions more fluidly with the player's movement! Thanks for making and sharing your game
Thanks for playing!! I'm happy to comment on implementation!
The diving / surfacing transitions are handled the way they are mechanically because in the timeframe of a game jam, I thought this would be the easiest and quickest way to implement it. Maybe I'm mistaken but it's my first time implementing such a transition, so I was trying to narrow the scope in order to go as fast as possible so we could start playtesting early.
Originally you couldn't walk up stairs to get on land so you had to use a ladder, but that limited level design, so we refactored so you could walk up stairs or ramps to get out of the water. So we spent extra time to pivot there in order to enable better level design!
I liked the idea a lot, really creative and fun to play! The enemy ai was a little weird at times, but it was still a lot of fun, and I enjoyed the puzzle element of traversing through each room and finding keys while avoiding the fish. Great work!
Oh god, the feeling of a sinking ship and having to swim through submerged rooms is a totally nightmare fuel. The sound and music creates such a tense and horrible atmosphere of having no hope at all. Horror wise it was really really well done! Easily one of the scarier games in the jam! I know I could have turned off the head bob and camera shake but I wasn't sure if my screen was supposed to constantly rotate all the time. It does give me a bit of motion sickness with those turned on for sure. I couldn't access the settings menu from the web version unfortunately to turn those off. I'm sure the Win build of it is much better but I do appreciate being able to try the game without downloads! Overall well done and I did enjoy the game!!
Post - QA (It’s way too late for me /3 AM GST +8/)
Nice low poly, nice story, didn’t finish the game but I will know the game is a massive megalohydrothalassophobia and i hate the angler fish- that bish be damned Angler AI seemed to be high for dumbasses /a.k.a me/
Other than mouse clippings /maybe the web/ the 3d renders and textures are nice, you guys have the best composers for the game and I’m proud of the team!!
GGs!! I’ll be waiting for the polished version after jam >:))
I Really Like The Pixelated Art Style And Having To Dive Underwater Was An Interesting Mechanic. What I Think Would Have Really Scared Me Was If There Was Suddenly A Monster On The Land In The Last Few Levels, Since I Think It Would Have Ruined The Feeling Of Safety I Had When On Land.
Mmm, right in the thalassophobia :P I must ask, was Howard Philips perhaps named for Mr. Lovecraft?
Bingo!
Nice game! Really enjoyed the artstyle and the sound when the fish started to chase you!
I liked the game. It had an interesting idea, a good story, and was quite scary. Good job.
Great work on this!
Beat it in 575 seconds. The thalassophobia is real - I got bioshock vibes from the atmosphere. Really impressive.
Pretty nice game, the atmosphere you created was terrifying but also oddly satisfying through the sound.
Crazy that you managed to do that in 7 days.
It was crazy indeed, thank you :)
this game is pretty good i loved playing this game. the environment, sound, lighting and that glow-fish everything was perfect. excellent work by making this game.
Overall, pretty solid game! The fish did a good job of making me nervous while also trying to play around it. I was confused at specific points, mainly because I didn't realize I could surface on the broader water areas, but that's probably on me! Aside from that, I enjoyed the game quite a bit. Great job!
