That definitely sounds like a bug.

I'll look for a cause, but it would probably go faster if you could send me an affected save file.

That should be the save

I "beat" her on hard and she joined the party so at least I can continue, but she disappears after joining on normal in that save file.

I had the same - she had left me on Normal and joined on Hard difficulty. Don't know if it is a bug or a feature :)

Interesting that people weren't complaining before.
Either they fought Canasta on Hard (might even playing the whole game on Hard) or they've missed the big ending.

I'm just glad it got caught.
a Dragon's reQuest went something like 6 months with it's final conversation turned off until someone pointed it out.
While I simply thought my testing save was made after having said conversation.
