Ok I LOVE this game. I just want to say the concept here is super awesome! I love the music, and the entire concept of moving your tile raft around. I could totally see this working on an arcade.

Critique:

  1. No joystick. - if you had this tied to a joystick and buttons this game would be WAY different. right now its just tough playing on a keyboard
  2. bugs where tile disappears when its moved (unless they are stacking? but that is not intuitive)
  3. Your score doesnt hang around after you’ve played, this is huge! You do all this work, and by the time it comes to you getting to see you score it disappears! you should keep the max score around so you can compare each run to your best. Also promote the player a bit when they hit a milestone distance on the raft. Something simple like a +25 +50 each time they get the raft further. Also, when doing milestone scoring you could possibly even give them bonus points for a larger raft. What is to stop someone from just keeping two tiles the entire game? No real reason to have all of those bloat tiles sticking around.
  4. Game mechanics are really clunky and hard to navigate the guy. He should have set positions that he fixes on the raft, i’m never sure if I’m standing on a tile or about to fall. I kept pulling a tile out from underneath him. Needs to be more obvious where he is standing by adjusting the angle of the camera or fixing the spot he stands w/ a light or shadow. or something. Also maybe auto posistion where the most logical place he plans to put the tile, he grabs it form the left and pushes right, highlight the white square where he most likely want to place it on the right side of the raft, he moves down move box to the sqare below the column he is currenlty most on… etc.
  5. Sound effects are a little low (or the music is to high?)

Thanks so much for the feedback! I was really happy that you enjoyed the concept and the vibe of the game. The idea of the 'tile raft' really started as an arcade project, so it was awesome to see you recognize that too.

Thank you also for the critiques — they were really helpful because you hit exactly the points that make the experience difficult. I’ve already noted everything:

Clearer controls / joystick

Tiles disappearing bugs

Music not staying after the run

Scoring system / milestones / high-score

Visual feedback to know where the player is

Audio mixing (SFX vs music)

I’ll work on these to make the game more intuitive, fairer, and give more reason to keep playing and breaking records. I truly appreciate you playing and taking the time to comment.

If you want to test it again when I release an update, it would be an honor.
